Tracking from the air: As a first step, the motor glider "Stemme S10VTX D-KNFH“ from the University in Aachen (Fachhochschule Aachen) explores the research site early in the morning. From a height of three kilometers to five kilometers it has a good overview and can rapidly detect the small eddies using an infrared camera. As soon as an eddy or a front is located, the zeppelin and research ships are informed. They then navigate to the eddy to measure it in detail, while the research aircraft continues scanning the entire research site.
